Purpose

The Coalition Against Duck Shooting’s purpose is to permanently ban recreational duck shooting in Victoria and throughout Australia because of the cruelty.

CADS’ rescuers are front-line fighters for the protection of Australia’s native waterbirds.  We campaign against the unnecessary recreational cruelty and violence sanctioned by governments that pander to shooters.

CADS’ role is to represent the interests of native waterbirds – in the media, the courts, to parliament and on behalf of the public, and to increase public awareness of the issue, coordinate the community response and encourage public lobbying.

CADS sees themselves as similar to the Red Cross.  Rescuers go into war zones and bring out the dead and wounded birds.

The government never provides any assistance for wounded birds.

Since 1986, many thousands of volunteers from around Australia and overseas have donated their time and money to help protect and rescue Australian native waterbirds.   They venture onto the wetlands to move birds out of shotgun range and rush wounded birds to on-site veterinary care.
