Steve Bracks, Former Victorian Premier, has thrown himself into the Victorian state election campaign to bolster Labor’s chances of holding key seats against the Australian Greens in inner city seats. Bracks launched the campaign for the seat of Northcote last night for Fiona Richardson, Labor MP. Veteran campaigner Laurie Levy says that he believes that the Greens can take the seats of Melbourne, Richmond, Brunswick and Northcote. Levy says that Labor is worried about the seat of Northcote, and that duck shooting will be banned by the Greens after the election.

Interview with Ron Waters, Wildlife Manager, Vic DSE, about the upcoming duck shooting season.

Waters explains duck shooting will be allowed on private land and state game reserves across Vic. Waters states there will be wildlife officers, Parks Vic rangers and Vic police patrolling popular spots to enforce regulations, while undercover officers may be present in more remote spots. Waters says in order to protect rare species, everyone with a duck shooting license has to pass a Waterfowl Identification test and must hunt only during daylight hours. Waters explains there is a bag limit of five ducks per person this season, and the season has been cut short by two weeks. Waters outlines some other regulations for shooters. Waters describes guidelines for protesters which prohibit them from approaching hunters.

He talks about an ad in the Eastern Messenger for Marshall, who is promising to ban shooting ducks. Interview with Vickie Chapman, Liberal MP for Bragg about the plans for the Britannia roundabout. Chapman says they have announced a $12m traffic signal, similar to the one proposed by Trish White when she was Minister, that was cancelled by Minister Conlon. She disputes the number of the trees that will be effected, arguing the program is necessary to deal with safety and traffic management. Chapman says the leaving of the site by the SAJC is an aspect they have been working on with Adelaide City Council, to minimise disruption to trees and the Parklands. She talks about the areas that are protected, and says they will take advice from the Transport Dept. She says the oval design is causing issues. Abraham asks about the accidents at the Gepps Cross intersection. Chapman argues it isn’t as bad as the oval roundabout. Bevan says Isobel Redmond, SA Opposition Leader has given Chapman permission to challenge for the leadership in the next term. Chapman says that isn’t her intention, saying she supports Redmond.
