Dear Friends,

Duck season will be opening in March. Help our native waterbirds!

OUR NATIVE WATERBIRDS NEED YOUR HELP!
JOIN OUR RESCUE TEAM NOW!

Two days before the opening weekend of the duck season, our planes buzz the wetlands in a pre-emptive strike to move so-called game species off the main wetlands open to shooting.

On the opening morning of the duck season, rescuers in kayaks and on foot enter the water to move birds off the water before shooters arrive.

Wounded birds are brought out and taken to our Mobile Veterinary Clinics.

Rescuers wear white or brightly coloured t shirts. This enables birds flying overhead to detect the possible danger below from shooters. The birds will usually keep flying high and out of shotgun range.

Shooter numbers over the years have fallen dramatically.
